One way to empower the Family: Help create and lead The Association of the Families in your County and State. SFI aims to facilitate the organization of these Associations and eventually help coordinate meetings, publications and task forces at local, county, state and national levels.

Another track: help file a Ballot Initiative in your State, to demand the recognition of the right to vote of all citizens, regardless of age (check out The Proposition).
